How Much Does Pool Remodeling Cost? A 2026 Guide
The short answer
Most pool remodels fall between $5,000 and $50,000. A simple resurfacing sits at the low end; a full remodel with new decking, tile, and equipment sits at the top. National averages are nearly useless on their own because labor rates, climate, and soil vary enormously by market.
That is why our city pages publish local ranges instead of one national number. A remodel in Memphis and the same remodel in Los Angeles are not remotely the same price.
Cost by project type
Resurfacing (new interior finish) is typically the single biggest line item and the most common project — usually $4,000–$15,000 depending on finish and pool size.
Tile and coping run roughly $3,000–$10,000. Decking varies the most, from a few thousand for a small refresh to $20,000+ for full hardscape. Equipment upgrades — variable-speed pump, filter, heater, automation — usually add $1,500–$12,000.
What moves the price
Finish choice (plaster vs. quartz vs. pebble), pool size, site access, soil movement, permit requirements, and how much of the system is aging at once. Bundling several aging components into one remodel is almost always cheaper than doing them piecemeal over several years.
